WRITTEN DURING THE SHOAH

Recognising that there will be some who disagree with my choice, I have arbitrarily limited these compositions to works composed between 1938 (the year of Kristallnacht) and 1945 - the period during which Nazi policy towards the Jews in Germany intensified from persecution to enslavement to extermination. Works of commemoration written after 1945 by composers who survived the Shoah appear at the beginning of the previous table (above).

David Beigelman (1887-1945)
Karel Berman (1919-1995)
Pavel Haas (1899-1944)
Rudolf Karel (1880-1945)
